My favorite covers of Amazing Grace

The images are ok, but the music is why I post this. It's one of my favorite versions of Amazing Grace.

Here's another, featuring an amazing array of country stars - Clint Black, Reba McEntire (that woman is AMAZING; she is my Oprah), Waylon Jennings, Suzy Bogguss, John Michael Montgomery, Amy Grant, Faith Hill, Eddie Rabbitt, and even James Garner and Mel Gibson (whom I watched just last night in "Lethal Weapon," LOVE that movie).

The second clip is based on the movie "The Maverick."

You didn't have the best one, though. Amazing Grace can be sung to "Ghost Riders in the Sky!"

My mother, upon seeing this post, sent me a link to just such a version!

Well, are you going to share that link?

I have never found it necessary to fool around with the traditional version of what is perhaps the most uplifting song ever written. I sing Karaoke from time to time. When I'm in the mood, I rip off the traditional version as well as anyone, and I'm an amateur.

One of my favorite songs back in the 60's was Ghost riders In the sky, done by the original guy. I just cant figure out how turning a magnificent song like Amazing Grace into something ... Anything other than what it was, would improve it. As a card carrying old guy, I'm sorry, but I'm going with the traditional.

Bay Views, there is some doubt as to whether it was John Newton who wrote that original melody. I do agree that the "original" melody is the most beautiful, but other melodies can be fun. My mom's favorite is to the tune of "Gilligan's Island" - not for the beauty or power, but for the entertainment.

I once wrote a sermon about the song, here: http://waywardepiscopalian.blogspot.com/2008/11/amazing-grace-or-why-all-christians.html

Bay Views, here is some information on the true original melody and the one we know, another link from my mom: http://www.markrhoads.com/amazingsite/

Try What a Friend we Have In Jesus to "When it's spring time in the Rockies." :) Or to the tune Ton e botel.
