Quote of the Day

I rather like this "A Thought for Today" from yesterday's "A Word A Day" e-newsletter:

Religions are not revealed: they are evolved. If a religion were revealed by God, that religion would be perfect in whole and in part, and would be as perfect at the first moment of its revelation as after ten thousand years of practice. There has never been a religion that which fulfills those conditions. -Robert Blatchford, author (1851-1943)

I have to respectfully disagree with that quote, but that probably doesn't surprise you.

Jordan, I do believe in divine revelations, but as far as religions go, think about it - there are so many internal disputes and disagreements within Christianity, and have been since Peter and Paul first disagreed about circumcision. If whole religions are revelations, how can we account for these disputes? I believe in divine revelations, I just don't think they constitute whole religions. Religions are God's revelations meshed with our own distortions, hopes, and confusions.
